AGM and prize-giving 17th November 2017
Thanks to everyone who attended our AGM and prize-giving. We had a super, fun and enjoyable evening. The first and most important stage of which was the AGM.
Roddie ably guided us through the agenda beginning with a review of the year which has included continued improvement in the quality of our greens in spite of the difficult weather conditions; successful open competitions; coaching sessions and the raising of our profile by hosting a Highland Council golf day.
We are fortunate, in a very difficult financial environment where many golf clubs are really struggling, to be able to continue to invest in our course and the equipment needed for improving it.
Both Roddie and Dave Whittingham wished to emphasise to everyone that the committee works hard for the benefit of the club. If any member should have an issue, please raise it directly with the committee who can then address it as a group.
Ian Cattanach reviewed the financial position, which is slightly improved compared with last year
Roddie highlighted that there may be a significant increase in SGU subscriptions next year, but in the meantime, it was agreed that our own subscriptions should be held at the same level as last year, ie Men £150; Ladies £130; Country members £110; Students £75; and Juniors £30.
Next year’s Committee was elected as follows:
Chairman – Roddie MacLennan
Secretary – Wang Liston
Treasurer – Ian Cattanach
Men’s Captain – Dave Whittingham
Ladies’ Captain – Ank Carins
Greens – Thomas Watson
Membership Secretary – David Hunter
Member – Andrew MacKenzie
Further members may also be co-opted.
June and Karen were thanked for their service on the committee, hard work and commitment to the club.
It was agreed that the membership would be notified of the date of committee meetings via the club noticeboard and the web site.
Dave then presented the men’s prizes, a significant proportion of which seemed to go to a certain Andrew MacKenzie! Well done Andrew, and well done to all the other prize-winners and competitors in this year’s fixtures.
June presented the ladies prizes, a significant proportion of which seemed to go to a certain Karen Starr! Well done Karen, and thanks and well done to all the other lady prize-winners and competitors this year.
June was presented with a delightful bouquet by the ladies in recognition of her hard work and diligence as Ladies Captain.
Finally, we had a fun quiz, which was won by a team including a certain Andrew MacKenzie!!! Did Q, David and Kenny deliberately go on Andrew’s team I wonder??

Here are a few photos of the evening…

Missing Hybrid Golf Club

One of our members has lost their new Dunlop 5 hybrid on the course. If you find it, please hand it in to the clubhouse.

Thank you

Ladies Shieldaig Trophy is postponed until 10am Sunday 8th October.

Ladies Shieldaig Trophy – 1st October

Because of the very poor weather forecast for tomorrow, the provisional start time is moved to 2pm. Please re-check this page before you leave, as the competition may need to be cancelled.

September open competition winners

Two Opens have been held this month – the senior open and the 9 hole mixed walk on open (sponsored by Stuart MacKenzie). The winners were David Steele and David Hunter respectively.

Welcoming our Belgian friends…

The ladies had an unusual delay to the start of their Thursday game this week. Some friendly touring Belgians asked to play the first hole as one of 50 challenges on their trip around the Highlands…we were only too happy to oblige!

Highland Council ECS Director’s Cup 2017

An amazing day with beautiful weather greeted all the players of this year’s Directors Cup. This is an event run by the Highland Council and it’s open to all present and past Care and Learning Service and Highlife Highland employees and their partners. This is a superb opportunity to show our course off to a new audience and we received many comments from the players complimenting our course, clubhouse and food.

Thanks to everyone who participated, to Thomas who went above and beyond, cutting the greens prior to play, to Sharon and her trusty crew who laid on lovely food, to Jean and Rona who organised the fun competitions and prizes, and to June and Karen who organised the event.

Looking forward to next year’s competition at Brora.

Thanks also to everyone who gives extra help in any way either on the course or in the clubhouse. Many of us lend a hand in some way or another, and we couldn’t run the club or the competitions or social occasions without you. Thanks too to Sharon and her helpers for keeping us all well fed and watered.

Looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

Here are some reminders of the day…

Ladies Open 3rd June 2017 – Full Report is now ready…please see the Ladies Open 2017 page on this site.

Ladies Come and Try Day – 14th May 2017

Thanks to everyone who came and also to our glamourous assistant (Ank) today…it was a super day and we hope you enjoyed it. The six ladies who came along were treated to a free lesson in putting, chipping and pitching by our two PGA qualified level 1 coaches, June Miller and Karen Starr. Here are one or two photos of the day…more on the ladies noticeboard…

2017 Flag Day – Thanks to all who joined us for a sun-kissed Flag Day event on Sat 25th March. Great to see folk again and renew our camaraderie. At these times, especially after a break between events, we remember how much we appreciate each other’s company and what a great wee club we have. The course was in great condition and the work continues to keep improving it. Fab food awaited us at the clubhouse to round off our day and the honour and glory for reaching the 18th Fairway in his allotted number of strokes went to Simon MacKenzie…well done Simon.

New Year 2017 – 9 hole stableford
Thanks to all who took part and contributed in any way to our super start to the New Year. If your name is MacKenzie, or you are related to someone of that name, it seems you had a head start over the rest of us today, Ian took home the honour and glory, but well done to everyone else too!

Here are a few snaps for you…

There’s lots still going on at the club, including the men’s winter league and the ladies winter eclectic. Keep an eye on this News page for updates on our goings on.

2016 AGM and Prize-giving evening…

  • Treasurer – Ian Cattanach
