Lochcarron Golf Club – Newsletter

March 2020 – Here we go again: spring is here and Thomas Watson has got the course into a good post-winter condition ready for the new season.

If you wish to take part in the Club Matchplay Competition now is the time to get your name down – a lot of fun is guaranteed, win or lose!

The golf course is a community facility and the existing membership is not getting any younger so this year we really do need everyone to participate and get as many family and friends to come along and join us – you can have a lot of fun amongst friends whilst enjoying the outdoors and getting some much needed exercise – you don’t need to have played before as we have spare clubs and members of the committee would be delighted to buddy up and play 9 or 18 holes with you.

Our special offer this year:- whether you have played before or are a complete novice buddy up with a member for a free 18 holes of golf and, if convinced, join at more than a 50% reduction on the first year’s fees – a year of golf for only £75!! This offer is also available to former members of Lochcarron Golf Club if they have not held membership for at least two years. Junior Members (under 16) have free membership.

If you require any further information or want to arrange a round, or indeed join the club, please contact Nigel Barnard on 01520 722872 or email

[Subscription Fees are now payable by Bank Transfer or cheque.]

Lochcarron Golf Club Newsletter – August 2020

Thanks to Thomas, Roddy and David Whittingham, and with little support from the wet humid weather, the course is in very good condition if not taking too much bounce. Let us hope drier sunnier weather will have been the order of the day once this is published.

Congratulations to Iain Johnston winning the inaugral July Medal competition with a net 59 and also congratulations to Roddy MaClennan on winning the Thompson Trophy event on 11th July with 38 points.

Now that lockdown has eased again and the “5 mile travel restriction” removed we can expect more tourists and with them more reasons to be vigilant and adhere to Government and Scottish Golf’s guidelines which can be viewed at

Competition golf has now been commenced with dates for August as follows:- (2pm Tee off unless otherwise stated)

Saturday 1st – August Medal (strokeplay)

Friday 7th – Coubro Cup week 1 (strokeplay) – 6 pm tee off

Saturday 8th – Coubro Cup week 1 (strokeplay)

Friday 14th – Coubro Cup week 2 (strokeplay) – 6 pm tee off

Saturday 15th – Coubro Cup week 2 (strokeplay)

Saturday 22nd – Greenkeepers Trophy (stableford)

Wednesday 26th – Nanite Shield (strokeplay) – 6pm tee off

Saturday 29th – Ladies match vs Gairloch

Men’s Wednesday Evening League – tee off at 6 pm

Our discounted Membership deal of £75 is still available so if you want to take up golf or rejoin the club after a gap of two years pick up a form from the foyer in the clubhouse or email Nigel Barnard – Membership Secretary – or telephone 07917 730083.

We are still under strict playing guidelines so please use the sanitiser if you enter the foyer and the toilets are still unavailable.

Most importantly if you do play you must email to register the time you were on the course for track and trace purposes – we are obliged to keep records for six weeks.

Thank for your continued cooperation and enjoy your golf !

Lochcarron Golf Club Newsletter – October 2020

What a wet and miserable July and beginning of August we have had making it very difficult to keep the course in good condition but thanks to all the volunteers for their efforts during this difficult period. We have also been able to purchase new seats for the course and, since the membership is not getting any younger, they are a very welcome addition.

The Trophy competitions in late July and the beginning of August were well contested and congratulations to the winners who were as follows:-

Finlayson Trophy – 19th July – Gerry Arscott with a net 59.

Arthur Treharne Trophy – 24th/25th July – (stableford) – David Hunter with a cumulative total over two rounds of 68 points.

August Medal – 1st August – Angus Mackenzie with a net 62 who won on a countback from Roddy Maclennan who also returned a net 62.

(Further competition results will follow in the newsletter next month)

The fixture list for competitions in September is as follows:-

Wednesday 2nd* – Graham Trophy (strokeplay) – 6pm tee off

Saturday 5th – September Medal (strokeplay) – 2pm tee off

Wednesday 9th* – Tullich Trophy (stableford) – 6pm tee off

Saturday 12th – Major Gunn Trophy (strokeplay)  – 2pm tee off

Saturday 19th – Member Only Mixed Walk On – (all day event)

Saturday 26th – October Medal – 2pm tee off

Finally a reminder that the discounted 2020/2021 Membership Fee is still open and there are still at least three good months of golf left before winter sets in – at £75 it represents good value for money !

May I also remind all members and visitors playing that, upon completion of the round, please email with names and time spent on the course to comply with Scottish Golf and the Governments Covid-19 track and trace guidelines.

Newsletter – 2021/22 season begins at the end of March

Last season was not without its challenges but proved, with the help of Grant Aid and from members of the Committee and other volunteers, to be more successful than was anticipated. We now wish to improve on last year and, with your help, continue to make Lochcarron Golf Club a greater local asset and tourist attraction. It is with this in mind that the Committee has decided, with the help of those Grant monies, to improve the drainage on the course in an effort to aid grass quality, cutting and improve the playing experience for its members and guests. This will involve some initial disruption in the early part of the year when the works will be carried out, given reasonable weather conditions, and it is with this in mind that it was decided there should be no increase in Members Subscriptions or Green Fees for the coming season.

However, we still wish to encourage new members and, to this end, we will be offering incentive discounts again this year as follows:-

  1. we will be offering a discount of £50 off the full membership rate for all new members for a period of one year;
  2. we will be offering a discount of £50 off the full membership rate for any existing member introducing a new adult member again for a period of one year.

Also, in conjunction with our club franchisee, Albatross Cafe, we are offering a 10% discount on any food or drink purchased at the Cafe on production of a current Membership Card/Fixture List.

This year we are hoping to attract sponsorship for each hole and for the club itself so if anyone knows of any candidates please contact us.

We look forward to seeing you on the course and do not forget we need you to attend the competitions listed in your Membership Card – get your name on a trophy or win a Monthly Medal.

Best wishes to you for the 2021/2022 season and enjoy your golf !
